Out and About at Crannog
There is always lots to see and do when staying at Crannog.
We are well positioned for STOPOVERS for Ferries/South of France/further afield. Crannog is only 15 minutes by car from the A28 motorway.
Local towns and villages within easy distance by car.
ORBEC. We are situated close to the medieval town of Orbec, with its quaint buildings and cobbled streets.
LISIEUX. 20 minutes by car is the bustling town of Lisieux. The magnificent Basilica of Saint Thérèse dominates the town, well worth a visit.
BERNAY. A pretty town (25 minutes by car). Take the train from here to Paris (1 hour 35 minutes by train) and arrive relaxed and stress free.
BEACHES & RESORTS. We are well placed for trips to the elegant resorts of Deuville/Trouville/Cabourg, 50 minutes by car.
WW2 SITES. Along the coast are the WW2 Normandy landing beaches and museums.
HONFLEUR. The pretty picturesque fishing port is well worth a visit. 1 hour by car.
MONET’S GARDENS. 75 minutes by car.
LE MANS. 1 hour by car.
CERZA ZOO. Is close by and makes a great day out.
LE MONT ST MICHEL. Less than 2 hours by car. A world heritage site; enjoy a walk around one of France’s premier tourist spots.
MARKETS
Lots to choose from in the region; L’AIGLE one of the biggest in France. ST. PIERRE-sur-DIVES, part is held in a beautiful 12th century hall. LISIEUX and BERNAY have really good outdoor markets.
The PAYS D’AUGE is famous for its ‘haute cuisine’. There are many exquisite restaurants serving speciality foods, i.e. fish, shell fish - coquille St. Jacques, cheese - Camembert, Pont L’Eveque and Livarot and of course, Calvados - apple brandy, Cider and Pommeau are produced here in the Calvados region.
ACTIVITIES
There is plenty to do in the area, boules, horse riding, tennis or fishing in the nearby famous Touques river, walking, bird watching or just sit and relax in the garden and let the world go by.
